Some More

Jan 08, 2014

Seeing as it’s been one week and I’ve already failed at posting the pictures daily you can pretty much expect it to be par for the course. I have however been taking the photos, so that’s a tiny victory. Here’s my update for the last few days.

Day 5 – I love good children’s books.

Day 6 – My wonderful little family. Love it when she snuggles up to daddy.

Day 7 – Look at that silly girl. So glad I get to see her adventures everyday.

The Picture Plan

Jan 02, 2014

I’ve decided to try a thing I heard about recently: take a picture everyday of something I am thankful for. I take plenty of pictures all the time on my phone so maybe I can do it. I’ll post them here as a way to keep track. Here’s yesterday’s and today’s.

Happy new year! A great way to start the year cuddling with my sweet sleeping baby.

Cousin time. The girls are doing they’re hair. So grateful to have my niece come visit and spend quality time with my daughter.

It’s a New Year!

Dec 31, 2013

I have never been one for new year’s resolutions. I’ve never really seen the point. So I realize that what I’m going to talk about next probably seems a bit counter-intuitive. The thing is, New Years is a time that is symbolically the beginning of something new (even if really, nothing particularly changes other than our calendars), which is why people make resolutions in the first place. For me, I get the same feeling at New Years that I do at the beginning of Spring, and the beginning of Fall; its a time for changes and new things. It feels full of opportunity. So this year I want to seize some of that opportunity.

I have been working my way around to this for a while actually. I’m a believer in the power of thoughts and state of mind. When my daughter was born I felt inspired to become the person that I pictured raising her, and to an extent I have. But now I feel that more is necessary – changing not just to benefit her, but to benefit myself. With a happier mother, I can only imagine that her life will be better too.

Everyone is a work in progress, but I feel like I haven’t been progressing much lately, other than a slow evolution in thought and outlook. But that slow evolution got me here, and today I read an a article that inspired me just that little bit extra (you can see it here). And in that article was a quote. I must have needed to see that right now, because it struck a chord.

“Set a goal so big that if you achieved it, it would blow your mind”

I’m not good at setting goals, and when I do, I’m even worse at following through. But this made me think – what if I had a goal that I really truly committed too, that I knew if I could accomplish would make me proud, and give me that sense that I did something worthwhile. Even if it’s just something personal.

So I sat down today and I made a list. A list of things that I would like to do right now in my life. I’m sure I will be adding to it, and I know that right now not everything is possible to achieve. Some things are work related (and since I like my work, actually things I just plain want to do) and some things are life long dreams. Some things are too vague (be more enthusiastic about things!) and some things I just plain don’t have the time and means to do right now with a full time job and a toddler. But it’s a good list, and I can look at it to remind me of where I want to be.

A couple of those goals are thrilling to think about actually doing, actually finishing. That is what the quote, and the article, inspired in me. At some point you realize that those things you’ve been dreaming about, idly playing around with in your mind, are actually things you can take real concrete steps to achieve. Sometimes you just need that nudge to open your eyes and realize that there’s nothing holding you back except yourself.

I’m not saying that I will suddenly change. But putting myself on that path is a good start. I won’t call them New Year’s resolutions, because those have become a joke, and I’ve never believed in them anyway. Big things are happening for my little family, big changes right now that make the whole thought of this next year exciting. And what better way to go into an exciting new year, than with an attitude to match?

Happy New Year! I hope it treats you well.

Looking Good!

Dec 25, 2013

Got the new site live and I love it. It’s so much better than the old one. I’ve gotten two other sites launched in time for the new year and everything is looking up.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays!

New Things Are Coming

Oct 31, 2013

I’ve been so busy lately with work and family and reading and pretty much doing anything but pay attention to my site.

But that’s changing. I’ve been working on an updated design, and some major recoding, and I have a new domain name. Hopefully I will have time to make that happen soon.

I also have a couple sites I’m building for people other than myself…amazing!! Hopefully I will get those finished soon as well.

In the meantime – Happy Halloween! Here’s an adorable baby ‘panaber.’

Some Politics and a Baby

Nov 11, 2012

If you don’t want to read what I have to say about politics (written only because I needed to get it out of my system and this is my blog, so if you don’t like it, go look at cute pictures elsewhere), then skip the next three paragraphs. I’ll let you know when its over.

BEGIN RANT

The 2012 elections are finally over, which means no more political ads for a while, which is exciting. But while I thought the worst was over on Wednesday, instead the most hateful comments from friends were just waiting  for after the election. Sore losers are sore… and annoying. I want to keep liking these people. Personally I am pleased with the election results, but even if it hadn’t gone my way I wouldn’t be insulting everyone who won because I can’t handle my disappointment like an adult. Its a simple matter of mutual respect and I find it very hard to respect some of my friends and acquaintances and their viewpoints when they send out so much negativity and unprovoked generalized attacks. I guess that’s what I get for living in Utah where my political views make me the minority. But a little decency doesn’t seem like so much to ask for.

I guess for now I can take my solace in the fact that I won’t be living here forever, and hey my guy did win, so I guess I’m not alone in my “idiocy” since more than half the country agrees with me. And you know what? I can feel better that my daughter will be growing up in a world that (at least for the next four years) actually values the environment and is working to preserve it for her future. That’s what is important to me. So if my well thought out decision based on environment and social betterment makes me the stupid one then so be it.

I don’t believe that either side is completely right, or that either side is completely wrong, all I can do is make my decisions based on what I want to see for our future. I shouldn’t be derided for participating in the system the way I’m meant to. I don’t feel like I need to agree with everyone, and I can respect that people I love and care about have different values than I do. That’s what makes this whole thing work. What I do feel is that those things shouldn’t be divisive. Defaulting to insults and name calling degrades everyone involved.

END RANT

There now that wasn’t so bad, here are pictures of an adorable baby as a reward. This weekend was her first snow storm. She didn’t know quite what to make of the world turning white and cold. She didn’t seem bothered until she stuck her hand in it and realized that the cold wasn’t going to go away.  There are also a couple pictures of my pretty little fairy child on Halloween.

Have I mentioned she’s crawling now too? Yeah, that’s happening. Between her and the rabbit, and her providing the rabbit with things, everything is being destroyed. Good thing they’re so cute.

We also took a trip to the Utah Natural History Museum this weekend. They’ve moved since the last time I was there and it was awesome. There are some pictures of Lucca and the dinosaurs here too (and a sabertooth cat). We had so much fun.

6 Months

Sep 20, 2012

I can’t even believe my little girl is 6 months old as of yesterday. She’s just cruising right along, and she’s learning new things almost every day it feels like. Just today she figured out how to sit up on her own. She can pull herself up, she’s almost crawling, she sits in a high chair when we go out to eat. She thinks she’s big stuff and can do whatever she wants (and for the most part she’s right). She’s just so dang cute and smart, how can we tell her no? Here are some pictures of her day at the park yesterday.  She’s not too spoiled is she?
